The 2011 Volnay 1er Cru, a blend of parcels in Taillepieds and Clos des Chenes, demonstrated a little reduction on the nose that needed a couple of minutes to blow off. Here, there is a noticeable mushroom influence that, to be frank, I found slightly distracting and distracts the taster away from what appears to be attractive red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, candied red cherry and citrus fruit, and a slightly abrupt finish that will need several years to really fill out. The Wine Advocate 212 - April 2014.
