A terrific effort, this classic blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a dark ruby/purple color as well as a complex bouquet of cedar, spice box, black cherries, and cassis. With impressive purity, medium body, moderate tannin, and a long finish (40 plus seconds), it will be at its finest between 2008-2018. Wine Advocate #158 - April 2005

About Vieux Château Certan...

The Vieux Château Certan vineyards are surrounded by famous neighbours such as Petrus, La Conseillante, L'Evangile... Charles de Bousquet purchased the property in 1858 and undertakes to rebuild the castle. Its present owners, the Thienpont family, who have later on lifted Le Pin to unprecedented heights, enter the scene in 1924 with Georges Thienpont.  Today Georges’ grandson, Alexander, is captain of the ship.  Following the manual harvesting of the grapes, vinification is performed in a meticulous manner, per grape variety, in oak barrels. Subsequently the wine matures 18 to 22 months in new wooden casks. Vieux Château Certan is less powerful than the classic Pomerol wines, but acquires an extreme finesse over the years.
